Serving the Regional District of Nanaimo
Tree Removal Across Nanaimo Neighbourhoods & Acreages
We work in every part of the city, from the mature Douglas-fir lots of North Nanaimo, Departure Bay, and Hammond Bay to the arbutus bluffs along the waterfront and the rural acreages of Chase River and the south end. Bylaw 7126 lets you remove up to four non-significant trees a calendar year without a permit, though riparian and Development Permit Areas need approval first. Older neighbourhoods here have big, decades-old conifers standing close to houses, so we usually dismantle those in sections rather than fell them whole.
Neighbourhood by neighbourhood
In North Nanaimo and Hammond Bay we work on large lots with mature firs standing on exposed, breezy ground. Departure Bay and the Old City have older established trees tight against homes and fences. Harewood, the University District, Chase River, and the south end have larger, semi-rural acreages. Each one needs a different access and rigging plan from us.
Waterfront and bluff properties
Along Nanaimo's shoreline, arbutus and Garry oak grow on rocky bluffs exposed to salt wind. We prune those native species carefully and only when they need it. If your lot is windy waterfront, expect a higher windthrow risk from anything shallow-rooted.
Permits in the city
We run into riparian setbacks and Development Permit Areas all over the city — the creek corridors through Harewood and Chase River, and the bluff lots along the waterfront. If your tree stands in one of those, the City has to approve the removal before we touch it. Garry oak, arbutus, Pacific dogwood and western yew are named in the bylaw, so we check for those first. Trees on City land — the boulevard strip in front of your house included — need the City's consent too. Our tree permits guide covers the details.
